IDENTIFYING WORN BELTS
- If the belt has more than 4 cracks per inch
- If chunks are missing from the ribs of the belt
- If the belt is making noise (also check Tensioner, Pulleys and alignment)
- If the belt has any tears or abrasions
- If the belt has any pinholes and/or bumps
- If the belt is glazed
- If the belt is greasy or oily
- If the vehicle has 70,000 – 130,000 miles. Need to inspect, 80% of all belt failures occur in this range
- If the vehicle is registered between 1997 – 2005. Need to inspect, 90% of all belt failures occur in this range
- If the belt is broken
